The short version: Epic trial between Apple and Epic Apple trial is continuing to uncover details from both companies. The most recent court documents show that Epic Games Store's GTA V giveaway was a massive success. The document also outlines Epic's strategy to increase the market's gross revenue by doing similar giveaways in what they call "Operation Moonshot."
The year before, Epic offered Grand Theft Auto V away on its store for games, such a large number of customers tried to claim the offer that caused a crash to it on EGS servers. However Court documents of the Epic Games v Apple antitrust case highlight just how popular the game was.
According to the documents discovered from The Verge, more than 7 million customers flocked to The Epic Games Store to take benefit of the deal. The number of people who bought the game was greater than the previous EGS release. The closest other games were was Civilization 6 (2.5 million) and Subnautica (nearly 1 million) in the days when they were free. Despite the growth in month-to-month active users (MAU), EGS still is a long way off of it if it hopes to keep pace with Steam. Steam. When Epic revealed its closed beta for self-publishing this week, it announced that the current number of MAU at 58 million. This is when compared with Steams 120 million active users.
For those who are wondering about that long path the court's document revealed Epic's plans, known as "Project Moonshot,"" to reach "$1 billion of gross revenues."
