You are John Chaser, an out-of-luck super-soldier with no memory of who he's , or why every guy with a gun is bent kill him. awakening on an area station under siege, Chaser finds himself, well, chased from orbit to mob-run urban nightmares, factories, shipping docks, power plants, military bases, and eventually Mars. To survive this obstacle course of story cliches, he’ll need to combat legions of armed thugs and soldiers, and handle a spread of guns supported real-world weapons.
If none of that sounds original that’s because it’s not. Chaser does have a couple of things of note. First, the water is basically great looking, possibly the simplest for its time. Second, it can support a whopping 128 players for riotously over-crowded deathmatches. And third? It’s really, really shiny. And not therein run-of-the-mill, “oh, did this old game get a layer of chrome?†kind of way. No, it’s showroom new, where everything, even stuff made from wood, gleams. For those that love shiny objects (you know who you are), Chaser is for you.
Other than that, it’s completely standard. The graphics, apart from being ever shiny, are entirely unremarkable— they’re decent, but nothing more, with rather a coarse character design. The noir-ish atmosphere would be great if not for the terribly written dialogue and poorly conceived plot. The action is engaging for the foremost part but crammed with annoyingly cheap enemy respawns and a few nearly impossible situations. Twenty weapons are certainly tons to settle on, except that the majority are machine guns of 1 sort or another, and none are even slightly original.
There are forty sizable levels, however, which provide Chaser much gameplay. While nothing here is even slightly above average, or noteworthy, it’s not a terrible game by any means, and if you've got insane amounts of bandwidth, the 128-player support is certain to draw your attention. Good luck finding any matches online thereupon many players though.
